Me and my wife got into craft shows out of pure chance. And mostly, I was just the person who tagged along so to speak. One couple was truly impressed with my wife’s crafts one day, so they decided to let us share their booth in a craft fair in California. All we did was split the booth fee (worth ), and we ended up making somewhere around 0 dollars. We patted ourselves in the back, and I thought that this would be a great way to occasionally supplement my income.
Armed with that naive mindset, we tested the fates once more a year later. This time, it was a weekend show in Arnold, California. I have since taken an interest in my wife’s crafts and have decided to try it out myself. Beyond that, we had the same old booth design, covered it with the same old tablecloth, and faced the less-than-perfect weather with a smile etched on our lips.
I didn’t know why luck favored us at the time, but we had sold out all of our items by the end of the weekend. Our total gross weighed in at around 0. What an easy way to earn income! As this was our second success in a row, we thought that we’d struck gold. After all, earning 0 every weekend sounds like a surefire way to success, doesn’t it?
And so we worked almost every weekend in our first few years in the crafts business. As long as there was a small craft show in a nearby town, a small club, or a church event, we made arrangements to make sure that we were there. At one point, we grossed 00 in an event for the first time. We really thought that we were making big money, then.
And that’s when we graduated to the big time shows. We added more crafts to our product line and improved on our skill sets. Our inventory grew, and so did our spending. And by playing with the big boys, we realized that there were still a lot of things that we needed to learn.
